Railway museums in Slovak republic



Bratislava - Museum of transportation ("Múzeum dopravy")

On this years' 25th June new opened museum, dealing both with railways and road traffic (lot of oldtimer cars). Railway exposition is composed of different technical memorables and documents. Outside the building following historical rail stock is situated : steam engines 556.036 and 433.023, steam emergency crane, old passenger and freight cars. In an old mail car small model railways, models' exhibition and number of various rail- and rail-models- related things to buy are situated, but this car is opened only on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
Opening hours in 1999 :
June 25th - September 20th :
Tuesdays-Thursdays : 10.00 - 17.00
Fridays-Sundays : 10.00 - 18.00

Situated in area of the first railway station in Bratislava (built in 1848 for the railway Bratislava-Wien), close to the main station ("hlavna stanica"), but the entrance is situated from the other side of the area, near crossroad of Sancova and Prazska streets.

Historical rail stock exposition in Vrútky

Exposition of historical rail stock and security systems, working steam engines class 310.433, 475.196 and 486.007. Situated right in Vrútky engine shed, take municipal bus number 7 from railway station, alight at stop "freight station" ("Nakladna stanica").
Opening hours in 1999 :
June 1st - September 30th :
Saturdays : 10.00 - 16.00
otherwise Mondays-Fridays : 10.00 - 16.00, but only when previously announced.
